Roger Broders

(1883-1953)

Roger Broders was a French illustrator and graphic artist who became one of the defining figures of Art Deco travel posters. Working extensively from the 1920s, he rose to prominence through his prolific collaboration with the PLM railway company — a style so distinctive, with its bold geometric shapes, stylized figures, vibrant sunlit colors and elegant typography, that it soon defined the visual language of the Golden Age of travel. His elegant compositions for L’Été sur la Côte d’Azur, Dunkerque, and the Chamonix-Mont-Blanc campaigns blurred the line between commercial tourism and fine art.
